Biography : Restos Mortais De Isabel

Restos Mortais de Isabel were born, mainly, due to the need that its founding members (António, Paulo e Tó) had to persue their musical aspirations, soon after the dismembering of Anomeos by mid 1989. The line up came from that previous band which, in its last days, already had Paulo as a drummer, while António and Tó kept their functions. Also, the musical progression came from the natural evoltion of that same band. During rehearsals, both António and Paulo palayed bass until, some time later, Aníbal joins the band to fulfill that duty. A couple of months after, they record they first two track demo-tape, This will enable them to play in Movimento Jovem II, during the Fall of that year. It constituted a moment of a certain awkwardness, for the local audience, to watch Paulo playing cylinder in two songs: Restos Mortais (which served as opening act and was part of ans Anomeos' song, Vontade) and Isabel. That same gig was closed by playing Overdose (de Cerelac), a song from Anomeos that became a sort of "hit" (if one can call it as such)... After that, the the number of rehearsals decresed, during 1990, resulting in only one song being completed, Astronauta Vermelho (never recorded). By the end of that year's Summer, they are invite to play in Movimento Jovem III, together with Rua do Gin. However, the weather conditions make that happening impossible to take place. Nevertheless, and shortly after, they record their second demo, Para Além de Deus, de Deuses e do Destino, in the rehearsal room of Mata Qu'é Bicho (from where the founding members of The SymphOnix, now Neonírico, came from), having, for that matter, invited Formiga (Ant) to play bass, as Aníbal couldn't make it. This was the band's last breath, ending in early 1991. However, and still during that year, the demo tape is released in Germany through Urban Records, receiving some good reviews. Each member persued, after, several and different musical projects but, in 1999, the idea of restarting the group emerges, though with some alterations: António remained on guitar, but Tó, besides vocals, would play bass and Paulo would go to a second guitar, while drumms were programmed on a drum machine. The idea was not only to play the old songs but also to create new compositions. At the same time, during 2000, the 1990 demo was re-released. In spite of this, things kept on moving too slowly, with little practical results. After a while, Tó abandons the band, which led to the invitation of Pedro Fonte (ex-Defuntos e Ritual Profano) to play bass, while Paulo also moved to vocals, leding this to the definite closure of the chapter, thus beggining Kali Ashti (known, nowadays as Archétypo 120), but that's another story...
