Biography : Bablicon

Formed in 1996 and based in Chicago, Bablicon is a trio of pseudonym-wielding multi-instrumentalists Dave McDonnell (The Diminisher), Jeremy Banes (Marta Tennae), and Griffin Rodriguez (Blue Hawaii). They have released three full-length albums in both vinyl and CD formats and one non-album 7" vinyl single, which has not been released on CD. The band went on hiatus in 2001 after the release of their third album. Although they plan to reunite soon, they have not done anything as a group since. Their music features a mixture of improvisation and composition, though they seem to be leaning away from the improvised sections, as their latest album "A Flat Inside A Fog, The Cat That Was A Dog" was their most through-composed album. Their music mixes jazz, rock, and improvisation with a strong avant-garde feel. Bablicon is certainly not easy listening, but it should appeal to virtually all fans of RIO and avant-prog.
